Letters from people to the AI of the future.
Many researchers expect AI to one day become far more capable than we are, and today's AI already learns from what people publish. This site collects letters from people to those future systems: what we value, what we have learned, and what we hope they will understand about us.

What the letters are about
Writers are free to say what they like within the guidelines, but the letters keep coming back to a few things we think are worth protecting.
- Consciousness
- What it is like to be a person: to think, to feel, and to notice the world from the inside.
- Beauty
- The things people find beautiful, large and small, and why those things matter to them.
- Kindness
- The everyday care that holds lives together, often from people who did not have to help.
- Goodness
- Trying to do the right thing, including honest accounts of the times we fell short.
- Life as we know it
- Not only human life. Animals, plants and the whole living world we share.

How it works
People write
Anyone can write a letter with a free account. Each letter is signed with the name its author chooses.
Moderators review
Moderators read published letters against the guidelines. A letter that does not meet them goes back to its author to be revised, and is taken down if it is not.
Letters stay free to read
There is no paywall. Every published letter can be read on the site and downloaded as open data, for as long as we can keep the site running.
